A Larkspur Barn House Coop, Fortified with Electric Fencing

The Barn House Coop with cedar planter boxes behind a five-strand electric fence, Larkspur, Colorado

Our customer out in Larkspur had one big worry: bears and mountain lions prowling around their property. They wanted our Barn House Coop, but it had to be a fortress.

So we built the Barn House with all the predator-proofing we're known for — and then some. We added a cedar planter box out front to keep it looking charming, then went full defense mode: a five-strand electric fence around the coop, powered by a solar energizer strong enough to send bears packing.

Sure enough, just weeks after the chickens moved in, they caught a bear on camera. It touched the fence, got a zap, and hightailed it out of there. It hasn't been back since, and the chickens are living bear-free and happy.
